BACKGROUND
 

2020 was a year of many disruptions. One impact that for some was high on the list was the 2020 sporting calendar. Disrupted, confusing and condensed into just a few months due to COVID and the lockdowns of pubs, venues and live sport that ensued.

 
 
 
CHALLENGE
 

The video conference call became the new normal during COVID lockdowns, synonymous with endless work meetings.

With usage up 2000% in 2020, we were using zoom for most of our day. But for thousands of our customers - there was something they couldn’t add to their video calls, the opportunity to connect with mates over a bet on sport and racing and their local pub.

 
 
SOLUTION
 
 

We saw this phenomenon as an opportunity to combine our customer data, wagering platform and content streams into a social meet up, instead of a boring meeting by opening a betting shop inside a video call.

Each ‘Lockerroom’ was private, allowing mates to send personal calendar invites to join for an event, hangout and punt together for 10 weeks of the busiest period of sport in the Australian calendar - including The Melbourne Cup Carnival, footy finals and ends of the NBA and MLB seasons.

We pushed three channels of racing and sport, live betting screens and up to the minute odds all embedded into live chat. Helping thousands of Australians reconnect with their mates over the sport and racing they loved. Much like they did before COVID locked down their favourite TAB pub.
